House Painting

Can I supply my own paint?

In almost all cases, it’s in your best interests to leave it to us to supply the paint. Our discounts with paint manufacturers are better than most painting companies receive, so homeowners are unlikely to save money by supplying their own paint.

If we don’t supply the paint ourselves, we’re unable to take responsibility for delays due to paint supply or mistakes caused by incorrect materials. In addition, our 10- and 15- year guarantee does require that we supply the paint, so we can be certain it’s selected and applied correctly. If you’re still set on supplying your own paint, that’s okay – give us a call to talk about your project.

Which paint manufacturer do you recommend?

We’re happy to work with any high-quality paint company such as Wattyl, Resene or Dulux. Wattyl is our first choice for exterior painting, and Resene is our first choice for interiors. The reason we can offer you a 10- or 15-year guarantee is that we choose the highest-quality materials and work carefully with the manufacturer to ensure it’s applied according to their exact specifications.

I only need one wall painted – can you help with this?

We’re happy to take on small jobs and we do many of these for our regular clients. To give you the best service, very small jobs are typically done on a ‘charge up’ basis – that is, according to the labour and materials used, rather than a set project fee.

How do you prepare surfaces for painting?

Preparation is vital to a beautiful, long-lasting finish, so we never take shortcuts. The steps we take vary for different jobs and will be outlined in your itemised quote.

Preparation typically includes covering the surrounding area (including furniture) to protect it, removing paint that’s flaking, sanding the surface to be painted and making sure it’s clean and free of dust and dirt. We will also fill in small cracks or holes to prepare the surface for the undercoat.

Do you strip wallpaper?

Yes, we can do this for you. Keep in mind that after having the wallpaper removed, your wall may require ‘skimming’. This involves applying several thin coats of joint compound to achieve a smooth surface before it can be painted.

I would like my whole house painted – can you give me an idea of the price?

Absolutely – we can often give an indicative price over the phone by asking you questions about the job. However for bigger projects, it’s much safer for us to come and meet with you in person to discuss the job first.

Do you do small jobs and can you give me a quote for those?

Yes. We’re happy to help with small projects and we do many of these jobs each week. We often estimate the cost of small jobs over the phone to give you a good indication of the price as soon as possible. To help with our estimates, some clients email us photos of the area that needs work.

Provided you’re happy with our estimate, we’ll book your job in to be completed as quickly and efficiently as possible. To find out more or arrange a quote, please contact us.

GIB® Stopping

Do you do small GIB® stopping jobs?

Yes. We do many small jobs each week, so please get in touch to discuss your project.

We often quote the cost of small jobs over the phone (some clients have emailed us photos to help with this). Provided you’re happy with the quote, we’ll book your job in so it can be completed as quickly and efficiently as possible.

How long will the GIB® stopper take to do the work?

Most GIB® stopping jobs take 3-5 days. This includes:

      1. 1-3 visits for the GIB® stopping itself
      2. 1 visit to come back and sand the work

During cold or damp weather, an additional day is required for the plaster to dry before the GIB® stopper can return to sand it.

How can I prepare the site for the GIB® stopper?

The best way you can prepare is to ensure our GIB® stopper has easy access to the entire area needing work. Remove electronics and furniture around the work area to prevent dust damage. Some flexibility for return appointments really helps. We often don’t know exactly how long each job that day will take. Once you have met with us you may allow us to hold a key this way we can swing back easily and we more likely to complete the job quicker.

Alternatively if you are not comfortable with leaving a key that’s just fine. We will communicate with you regarding times to return.

Do you have a square meter rate for GIB® stopping?

Yes. Our square metre rates depend on the job size and we can give you these over the phone as an estimate. Keep in mind that quoting a job is about much more than the size of the area. That means square metre rates are always subject to the nature of the work, so should only be considered a guide.

GIB® Fixing

Do you do small GIB® fixing jobs?

Yes. Depending on the nature of the work, we’re happy to fix most types of jobs.

Who supplies the GIB® board?

We prefer to supply the GIB® board as well as fix it; that allows us to take full responsibility for the outcome. However, we can price a ‘GIB® fix and stop’ package for you if required.

Do you fix GIB® board horizontally?

Yes, when needed. Our experienced GIB® fixers will fix GIB® according to best practices, customised to the site. We select the GIB® layout that will create the least number of joins and according to recommendations by the manufacturer. In most cases this requires a mixture of horizontal and vertical fixing. For more information about what points we consider when fixing GIB® board, see our GIB® fixer rules.

I’m a builder and want to supply the GIB® myself. Can PBF do the sheet measure?

Sheet measures are normally done by the supplier of the GIB® board, but we are happy to do this for a small charge.

For more detailed information on our services please contact PBF Or complete the short form and we will be in touch.
